Men's Soccer Announces Fall 2012 Recruits

Mark Cortes (Egg Harbor Township) and Tim Gardner (Middle Township) head up the newest recruiting class for Men's Soccer. Coach Neno Gorgiev will also have several other new faces, including Simba Hampton (Lower Cape May Regional), Javier Angel and Mbiatke Abasi (Absegami).  Alex Oppong and Abdul Abubakar are the lone returnees from last season's 6-14 squad, while Steve Parmenter (Atlantic City) rejoins the squad after sitting out the 2011 season.

TICKETS
Prices throughout the tournament are $10 for adults, $5 for students with college I.D. and children between the ages of 5 and 18 years of age.

No additional group discounts or reduced-price tickets are to be sold at any games. No complimentary tickets are available to institutions, their coaches or student-athletes for the tournament. A limited number of passes (seven) will be provided for administrators.

Note: Ticket windows will be kept open throughout the entire day until half-time of the last contest each day.

Andrew Fields Hired as Head Coach, Men's Basketball

Atlantic Cape Community College has hired former pro basketball player Andrew Fields as head Coach of Men’s Basketball. Andrew’s coaching experience is extensive. A protégé of John Chaney, he has been the Co- Director of the John Chaney/Sonny Hill Basketball Clinic, as well as the Co-Director of the C. Vivian Stringer Basketball Clinic. He has also served as Head Coach at the Boys and Girls Club of Camden County; as an Assistant Coach at Holy Spirit High School and as an Assistant Coach of the Lancaster Storm of the USAL.

As a player, Fields played for John Chaney at Cheyney University. Andrew led Cheyney to the 1978 NCAA Division II National Championship, where he was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the National Championship Tournament. He would go on to be named as the 1979 ECAC Player of the Year and was inducted into the Cheyney University Hall of Fame in 1987.

As a professional, Andrew was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in the second round of the NBA draft in 1979. He enjoyed a long professional career, with over 18 years experience in NBA, PBA and FIBA leagues. Among his career highlights, in Europe Andrew played for Versoix BasketClub, Basket Club Lugano, Bellinzona Basket Club in Switzerland, and Racing Paris Basket Club & Nantes Basket Club in France.

Andrew graduated from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Cheyney, Pa., with a B.S. degree and lives in Atlantic City, NJ.

Gorgiev Hired as Head Coach, Men's Soccer

Nenad Gorgiev has been hired as the new Head Coach of Men's Soccer, it was announced today.  Gorgiev, from Egg Harbor Township, was an assistant coach for the Buccaneers in 2007 and 2008 when they won the ESSL Cup and League Title. 

Originally from Macedonia, Gorgiev is also the Co-Head Coach of the AC Crusaders NPSL franchise, and a trainer with Atlantic Soccer Factory.  Gorgiev studied at the National Sports Academy in Bulgaria, and also played professionally in Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Italy. 

Nenad lives in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Atlantic Cape Athletes  Named NJCAA All-Americans

Atlantic Cape Community College student-athletes John Beningo of North Cape May and Mary Lumor of Galloway have been named Academic All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their exemplary achievement during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Benigno, 20, is a goalkeeper for Atlantic Cape’s soccer team. He has maintained a 3.71 GPA toward a general studies associate in science degree.

“John was a quiet leader and a steady performer who worked hard to improve his skills, as he didn’t play in high school,” said Mike Rennick, senior athletics and fitness manager at Atlantic Cape. 

Lumor, an all-purpose volleyball player, is known for her positive attitude and her ability to play all of the positions on the court. The dynamic 20-year-old has maintained a 3.72 GPA and is working toward a nursing associate in applied science degree.

To be eligible for Academic All-American recognition, student-athletes must complete three college semesters, maintain a 3.6-3.79 GPA for 45 semester hours and letter in at least one sport recognized by the NJCAA.

Bucs Open Softball Season on Atlantic Cape's New Softball Field

Softball opened up against Salem CC on Tuesday, dropping both games to the Oaks; 19-9 and 19-1.  Atlantic Cape President, Dr. Peter Mora threw out the first pitch to open the new field.
