Associate in Applied Science

This degree serves students who seek a career in computing, but are not interested in programming or transferring to a four-year school. Strong emphasis is given to application software packages most popular in many organizations: spreadsheets, database, word processing and multimedia presentation. In addition, popular system software including MS Windows will be emphasized. Upon graduation, employment opportunities may include systems support administrator, software trainer and PC coordinator.

Upon Completion of this program students will be able to:

  • Develop computer programs in Visual Basic, Java and Oracle SQL;
  • Investigate information systems with respect to their existence and develop needed informational improvements within an organization;
  • Perform basic managerial functions such as organizing, staffing, directing, planning and controlling;
  • Use a microcomputer for functional and analytical purposes;
  • Describe various positions of employment in the technology profession;
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral methods;
  • Describe the impact of technology on business, government and other areas of society;
  • Utilize word processor, spreadsheet, graphics and filing programs.
