Students in Chef Educator Annmarie Chelius’ Centerpiece Artistry class at the Academy of Culinary Arts created marzipan plaques in recognition of National Arts in Education Week Sept. 9-15. The week focuses on how the arts are an essential part of a complete education, no matter if it happens in the home, school or community.

The pieces were inspired by Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo who was famous for creating portraits made entirely of items such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books. The students will present the pieces at the Ocean City Free Public Library from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 12 for a “Meet the Artist” event.

Chelius of Ocean City said, “I enjoy seeing how the students apply their knowledge and skill of working with marzipan into creating an edible masterpiece.”
