Payroll Accountant

Duties: Reports to the Controller; maintains payroll reconciliation spreadsheets to verify the accuracy of gross earnings and time input; reviews employee assignment forms and payroll timesheets; inputs employee data including IRS form W-4 and direct deposit information; coordinates and runs Colleague payroll production processes; calculates and prepares payroll tax remittances; maintains Federal and State payroll tax worksheets; prepares quarterly payroll tax forms; assists with W-2 processes; analyzes accounts and reconciles general ledger activity to supporting payroll and tax reports; prepares worksheets to reconcile the categories of gross earnings; applies principles of accounting to analyze past and present financial transactions; maintains calendar of tax reporting deadlines to ensure compliance with reporting requirements; submits labor statistics report; keeps current on relevant payroll laws and regulations and applies changes to payroll process as applicable; coordinates activities between Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology Services on relevant issues and problem solving; stays current on Colleague software; uses Ad-hoc reporting tools (currently Ellucian Colleague and Intrinsik Informer); handles day-to-day payroll matters and payroll related employee requests or questions; communicates and coordinates payroll activities with interdepartmental personnel including follow-up to ensure timely payroll processing; communicates payroll process changes to employees; maintains and updates fiscal and calendar year-end payroll timelines; trains employees on payroll-related issues; related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:Associate’s degree in accounting or finance. Bachelor's degree preferred. Three years of experience in payroll administration. Five years experience in payroll administration preferred. Strong accounting skills and computer literacy to include spreadsheets and word processing programs. Experience using Enterprise payroll software, Ellucian Colleague preferred.
 Note: This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
