Marjorie Ward Leaders Scholarship

About Marjorie Ward

Marjorie Ward

The Marjorie Ward Leaders Scholarship is named in memory of Ms. Marjorie Ward, a longtime resident of Cape May. Born in 1898, her life spanned three centuries.

She passed away on May 10, 2004 at the age of 105. As an adventurous, well-read world traveler, Ms. Ward is described by friends and family members as someone who possessed a wealth of knowledge and endless energy.

After graduating from Columbia University with a degree in Home Economics, Ms. Ward taught for many years in the Montclair Junior High school system. Retiring in 1958, Ms. Ward chose Cape May County as her home. Though retired, Ms. Ward remained active for many years in the Retired Teachers Association. Ms. Ward also held memberships with the Society of New England Women, the Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Mayflower Society, the Cape May Historical Society and Museum, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May, and the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church -- all the while keeping a keen eye on the creation of the Cape May County campus of Atlantic Cape Community College.

Her generous bequest to the ACCC Foundation will provide two-year, full-tuition scholarships annually for up to six Cape May County residents who demonstrate leadership potential through The Marjorie Ward Leaders Scholarship Endowment Fund. The Foundation is grateful to Ms. Ward for selecting Atlantic Cape Community College as the recipient of her generosity and honored to carry out her wishes and to continue her legacy and memory in Cape May County.
