The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law on July 26, 1990.  The ADA is a highly consequential equal opportunity law for people with disabilities.   The ADA draws its inspiration - in part - from the Civil Rights Act of 1964.   The goal of the ADA is to prevent discrimination, expand opportunity, and provide legal protections to ensure that Americans with disabilities have the opportunity to lead a full life.
