Performing Arts Curriculum Grows

Students interested in pursuing a career in performing arts now have more choices at Atlantic Cape, under a three-year initiative begun in 2010-2011 by the Academic Affairs area. This expansion includes more offerings in three Performing Arts disciplines:

Dance students
  • Theater Arts
  • Dance
  • Music

During the first year, a full-time faculty member, Rob Gerristead, was hired to develop a Theater curriculum and then to deliver that coursework. Going forward, the plan included increasing offerings in Dance in 2011-2012 and Music          in 2012-2013.

According to Dr. Peter L. Mora, President, the college also will host local and regional performing arts companies “in residence” at the college’s Walter Edge Theater.

"This will give our students the opportunity to have internships in the production and performance side of the business and provide expanded opportunities for engagement for members of the Performing Arts Club, which is open to all students on campus,” he said. The performances will be open to the community, a further benefit of the program, the President said.

Atlantic Cape offers a Performing Arts option to the Liberal Arts Associate in Arts degree.
