Student Information for Commencement

In the event of severe weather, a decision to delay the ceremony (later time, same day) will be made at 6:00 am on the day of commencement and posted on our website at and sent out via Text Alert. If you have not signed up for Text Alert go to the college website to sign up.

The length of the ceremony is approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours.

DATE:                     Thursday, May 17, 2018

TIME:                     Commencement begins at 11 a.m. 

PLACE:                   Field behind main parking lot adjacent to the Gymnasium (Building “E”)

PARKING:               Rutgers parking lot (Lot P-5)

General Information

  • Arrive in Gym Building “E” at 9:15 a.m. to line up for the Processional which will begin at 10:30 am. Students who arrive late will join the procession at the back of the graduating class.
  • Stand near the sign which has the alphabet letter range in which your last name would fall.
  • Student Marshals will give you your name card, which will be used to call you up to the platform.  
  • Once you have your card, line up alphabetically.  
  • Students with 4.0 GPAs will assemble at the front of the procession.

Ceremony Information     

  • The Marshals will lead you to the seating area on the field.  Please stand by your seat until the Chief Marshal, stationed on the platform, signals you to be seated.
  • Students will be called up to the platform first (alphabetically) followed by the rest of the graduating class (alphabetically).
  • Each graduate will be given a diploma folder. Diplomas will not be handed out at Commencement. Please allow three to four weeks after Commencement and you will be notified via your buccaneer email to pick-up your diploma.   • Please inform your relatives and guests that they will be permitted to take pictures from their seats.  Ushers have been instructed to keep the areas around platform clear for safety reasons.  PLEASE COOPERATE.
  • After all students have returned to their seats, please follow the High Honor student in the "changing of the tassel" ceremony.
  • Please remain standing for the dismissal of the platform guest and faculty. After this, you may visit with your family and friends and use the platform area for taking pictures.
  • For liability reasons children are not allowed in graduate seating area or on stage with parents. Children attending ceremony must be supervised at all times by someone other than graduate.

NOTE: If windy, you may need bobby pins for your cap.  Please do not bring purses; there is no place to safely leave them. All phones and electrical devices must be on “vibrate” or turned off. We ask that everyone be respectful of other audience members.
