Policy No. 819

Area: Human Resources

Description: Disciplinary Action

Adopted: 04/23/96
Revisions Approved:

Good supervision requires that supervisors concentrate upon preventing serious personnel problems through counseling with employees. Corrective discipline is an effective approach in dealing with most disciplinary problems while at the same time fostering mutual respect between supervisors and employees and protecting the rights of all concerned.

Before disciplinary measures are imposed, it is essential that the situation be thoroughly investigated so that the facts are made known. Any action taken must be primarily corrective rather than punitive and must be appropriate to the offense.
