Athletics Opens New Facilities with 'Healthy Fitness' Celebration
April 14, 2010
Atlantic Cape Community College athletics opened its doors to the campus community to unveil and celebrate its renovated athletic facilities, April 13, in the gymnasium at the Mays Landing Campus.
Buccaneer athletics kicked off the event with a "Healthy Fitness" theme. The celebration offered healthy snacks to visitors, and healthy giveaways like bottled water, energy bars and water bottles. The event also featured informational displays and free blood pressure checks from Health Professions Institute students.
The event included remarks by college officials, college President Peter Mora, Dean of Students Carmen Royal, Mike Rennick, senior athletic and fitness manager, Cynthia Correa, assistant director of student development, and Helen Walsh, Board of Trustees member. County officials Howard Kyle, Atlantic County chief of staff, and Alisa Cooper, freeholder, also spoke at the event.
"The fitness center now allows Atlantic Cape's students to make their bodies strong as well as their minds," Cooper said.
Additional remarks were made by Student Government Association President Roger Bounthisane of Egg Harbor Township, and incoming President Wanda Lugo of Atlantic City.
"Student athletes can work out more effectively and non-student athletes have a way to stay healthy," Lugo said.
A ribbon-cutting and a tour of the facilities, including renovated locker rooms, a modernized gymnasium and the recently constructed 800-square-foot fitness center concluded the day's events.
The fitness center is now open to the college community, and houses treadmills, weight machines, elliptical machines, flat screen televisions and more.
