Applications for Culinary Scholarships Due June 30

If you have a passion for food and are considering a career in the food service industry, the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College is accepting applications for culinary scholarships through June 30.

The college will award 27 $1,500 scholarships to incoming culinary students this fall and one full-time scholarship. The Vince DeFinis Restaurant Gala Scholarship awards $6,000 for each of three semesters at the Academy to one full-time student.

The scholarships are open to students who enroll in at least 12 credits for their first semester in the program. Applicants must apply for admission to ACCC, meet the necessary scores on the college Placement Test, and file an application for financial aid for the 2009-2010 school year. Financial need is preferred but not required to receive a scholarship.

In addition, those applying for the scholarships must complete an application form available at, submit a letter of recommendation from a chef educator or employer, and write an essay of no more than 500 words explaining their passion for culinary arts to: Erin Adasczik, Admissions Office, Atlantic Cape Community College, 5100 Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing, NJ 08330-2699. The ACA offers associate degree and certificate programs in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management and Baking and Pastry. Full-time classes meet five hours a day, Monday through Friday, in morning, afternoon or evening sessions from August through December and January to May. Part-time and evening classes are also available.
