ACA Lick Hunger Ice Cream Challenge Raises $300 for Food Bank

In March, students at the Academy of Culinary Arts competed in the Lick Hunger Ice Cream Challenge, creating 11 original flavors. The winning flavors were sold at Lindy Hops Ice Cream locations in South Jersey during the summer, with proceeds going to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey-Southern Branch. On Dec. 9, Lindy Hops owners Linda L'Erario and Ed Jones presented Evelyn Benton, director of the food bank and a 1989 Academy graduate, a $300 check.
The winning flavors were Lemon Meringue Pie by Randi Wallace of Cherry Hill, and Where's the Beach, a concoction of Creamsicle swirl, salt water taffy bits and orange jelly candies created by Nancy West of Frenchtown.
Students were encouraged to create exotic and unique flavors and had more than a month to perfect their creations. The partnership with Lindy Hops allowed students to apply what they learned in the classroom to a real-world challenge.
