July 24, 2008
Sherwood LaValle Taylor, Atlantic Cape Community College's director of the Institute for Service Excellence and continuing education marketing, received the 2008 Community College Spirit Award from The New Jersey Council of County Colleges.
The council, which represents the state's 19 community colleges, presented the award to Taylor during its annual trustee conference held June 16 in Trenton.
Taylor, who resides in Northfield, is an accomplished corporate trainer, instructor and motivational speaker. With more than 20 years of experience in the development and instruction of classroom, online and corporate training programs, he has established a strong reputation in the design, delivery and marketing of adult programs and customized training. At ACCC, Taylor is responsible for the operation of the Institute for Service Excellence, the college's retail, sales and service training program facility; and the marketing for career training programs, workshops and seminars, Casino Career Institute, Health Professions Institute, corporate training and all grant-funded projects.
The award was established in 1993 to honor those who embody the community college spirit of "perseverance, dedication and excellence," said the council's chairman Dr. Richard Wellbrock.
Taylor was recognized for his contributions to Team New Jersey, a group of specialists from community colleges who provided training to more than 800 New Jersey small business employees as part of the state's Basic Skills Workforce Training Program. The program is a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association and the state's community colleges.
