Atlantic Cape Community College Archery Team member Joseph Jao of Egg Harbor Township has been named to the 2008 U.S. Archery All-Academic Team.
Jao, 18, a second-year student who is majoring in accounting, joined the ACCC team last year. He competes in the men's recurve category.
"He started out as a beginner and is doing great," said ACCC Archery Team Coach Dr. Helen Bolnick.
In order to qualify for this honor, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a higher learning institution, must have finished in the top 25 percent of their division in the Indoor National Championships and must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, among other criteria.
In addition to Jao's honor, star student archers Steve Gatto of Hammonton and Mark Schiavo of Mays Landing recently were named to the U.S. All-Eastern team.
These student athletes plan to compete against more than 170 college archers from across the country during the U.S Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC), being hosted by ACCC Thursday, May 15-Sunday, May 18. The event takes place at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike. For more information, contact Dr. Bolnick at (609) 841-1184.
