Deadline Near for 2008 Scholarship Applications; New Award Memorializes ACA Graduate
February 4, 2008
Time is of the essence for students who wish to apply for 2008 scholarships as the Friday, Feb. 15, deadline is just around the corner.
ACCC awarded more than $160,000 in scholarships to qualified students in 2007. Students need to complete an application form, write a short essay describing what part a scholarship will play in achieving their personal and professional goals and submit at least two letters of recommendation. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Late entries will not be considered.
Among some of the new scholarships is an Academy of Culinary Arts award that has been established in memory of Cape May County resident Nathan Allen, 2003 ACA graduate. Allen died in a car accident in February 2006 at age 22. In addition to the endowed scholarship, his family is planning a benefit on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Avalon Golf Club in Cape May Court House. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. The first scholarship award will be given to an ACA student from Cape May County in May.
Recipients are expected to attend the annual scholarship award ceremony, which will be held May 21 at 7 p.m. in the Walter Edge Theater.
Applications are available at the financial aid offices on Atlantic Cape Community College's campuses in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May County, and online. At the Mays Landing Campus, applications also are available at the William Spangler Library, the Division Office in A-128, the Student Life Center and the Academy of Culinary Arts.
