ACCC Archer Wins Gold at International Competition
July 12, 2007Steve Gatto of Hammonton, a member of Atlantic Cape Community College's archery team, won the Gold Cup for overall performance in the men's compound competition at the XXV Torneo Batalla de Carabobo in Venezuela in June. This archery championship included competitors from around the world.
Gatto earned a Gold Cup, a Gold medal and four Silver medals for his performance during the four days of competition. ACCC teammate Desiree Sparano of Galloway helped the women's recurve team win a Bronze medal at the tournament.
This was Gatto's first international competition. "It was a little bit intimidating, but I went out and did what I had to do," he said.
Gatto, 20, has been shooting for ACCC's archery team since he began attending ACCC in 2005. He fell in love with archery when he went to the Atlantic City Archery Classic as a spectator in high school and saw archers from ACCC compete.
Gatto will next travel to Colorado for the U.S. outdoor competition in August.
Dr. Helen Bolnick of Elmer coaches the team.
