Compound Archery Team No. 2 in the Country

Atlantic Cape Community College's men's compound archery team placed second in the nation at the United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships, May 19-21, in Sparta, Ill.

The men's compound team, including Steve Gatto and Ryan Miller of Hammonton, Doug Beardsworth of Brigantine and Mark Schiavo of Somers Point, received a silver medal.

The men's recurve team, including Brett Lazaroff of Absecon, Joe Jao of Egg Harbor Township and Dave Lee of Estell Manor, placed fifth.

The women's recurve team also placed fifth. Team members are Desiree Sparano of Galloway, Mae Tietje of Mays Landing and Colleen Ricciardi of Galloway.

Approximately 175 archers from 25 schools in the United States competed in the competition. Dr. Helen Bolnick of Elmer coaches the team.

Lazaroff and Gatto were named to the All-America team, an honor bestowed to the top 10 finishers at indoor and outdoor national competitions.

Additionally, Gatto was selected to compete in the XXV Torneo Batalla de Carabobo in Venezuela, June 19-24. This archery championship includes competitors from around the world.
