Atlantic Cape Will Offer New Martial Arts Self-Defense Program
January 3, 2017
This spring, Atlantic Cape Community College will offer Martial Arts Self Defense, a new continuing education program that explores Goju-style karate. The class will meet 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays between Jan. 30 and May 25 at the Cape May County Campus, located at 341 Court House – South Dennis Road in Cape May Court House.
“Goju-ryu,” a traditional Okinawan style of karate, literally means “hard-soft style,” and refers to the closed-hand techniques (hard) and open-hand techniques and circular movements (soft) that this martial art includes.
Students will learn effective self-defense skills, while developing focus and perseverance as they work out in a friendly environment. Participants also will experience a tremendous increase in energy and stamina.
The college also will offer Introduction to Qigong/Tai Chi, a one-day workshop that covers the basic principles of qigong and tai chi. Students will learn simple breath practices, movement, meditation and self-massage techniques that enhance overall health and improve balance and flexibility. These practices can be modified for those with limited mobility.
The workshop will meet 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the Worthington Atlantic City Campus, located at 1535 Bacharach Blvd. The fee is $39.
