Atlantic Cape Opens The Morey Family Student Success and Career Planning Center as Resource to Students, Community Oct. 27
October 28, 2016
Atlantic Cape Community College held a grand opening and dedication of The Morey Family Student Success and Career Planning Center at the college’s Cape May County Campus on Oct. 27. The center will offer guidance and resources to assist students in making informed decisions about career choices, including career counseling with access to computers for job searches, and will support other success initiatives, as well.
Will and Jack Morey, of Morey’s Piers, continued their commitment to Atlantic Cape students by supporting the college’s Student Success Initiative through a gift that offered them naming rights to the center. They designed the recognition wall that includes a visual depiction of amusement industry milestones that influenced the development of their own business.
Prior to the ceremony, Dr. Mitchell Levy, vice president of Student Affairs and dean of the Cape May County Campus, and Tammy DeFranco, director of Cape May County Campus Student Services and Campus Management, presented a demonstration on career planning software and the technical capabilities available to students in the center’s new computer lab.
During the ceremony, speakers included Maria Kellett, senior director of Resource Development at Atlantic Cape Community College; Dr. Mitchell Levy, Josh Maldonado, Atlantic Cape student and Peer Mentor; Will and Jack Morey of Morey’s Piers; and newly-appointed Cape May County Freeholder Jeff Pierson. Employees from different departments of Morey’s Piers, ranging from construction to culinary, were also in attendance.
Will Morey, president of Morey’s Piers, said, “When you take a step up, the view gets a little better,” when referring to career journeys and how the center will aid students in those processes.
Levy remarked, “The center will not just be a resource for students, but the entire community and K-12 students.”
The center is part of the Atlantic Cape’s Student Success Initiatives that promote both academic achievement and career development to provide all students assistance where they need it most. To learn more about the initiatives, visit www.atlantic.atd.
