Atlantic City Council Resolution Honors Atlantic Cape

July 18, 2016

The Atlantic City Council approved a resolution congratulating Atlantic Cape Community College on its 50th anniversary at the July 13 city council meeting.

Dr. Peter L. Mora, college president, accepted the resolution, which is the first honoring this milestone that the college will celebrate during the 2016-2017 school year.

The resolution recognized the important role Atlantic Cape plays in higher education for residents of Atlantic and Cape May counties, and its continued efforts to make education and workforce training available and affordable.

In December 1963, the State Department of Education granted approval for the establishment of Atlantic Cape, which became the second college to be organized by the state on April 14, 1964. The college opened its doors to students in September 1966, using facilities rented from Atlantic City High School. Atlantic Cape now has full-service campuses in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May Court House.

The college will kick off a yearlong series of 50th anniversary events with a Community Day, noon-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike. The event is free and open to the public and will feature music by Seven Stone, face painting, a UAV demonstration, food trucks, craft and nonprofit vendors and much more.
