Atlantic Cape Faculty, Administrators Co-Author Book Highlighting Student Success

July 11, 2016

Dr. Mitchell Levy, vice president, student affairs and dean of Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County Campus, co-authored and co-edited a book with Dr. Bernard A. Polnariev titled, “Academic and Student Affairs in Collaboration: Creating a Culture of Student Success.” The book was published in June by Routledge Press, Inc.

Contributing authors from Atlantic Cape faculty and staff include: Michael Kammer, associate professor of English as a Second Language; Sue DePhilippis, associate professor of English as a Second Language; Judith Otterbrun-Martinez, assistant professor of English as a Second Language; Maryann Flemming-McCall, associate professor of English; Tammy DeFranco, director of student services and campus management at Cape May County Campus; Lisa Givens, manager of student activities and athletics; Erika DiRenzo, former Atlantic Cape adjunct instructor; Janet Marler, associate dean of academic support services; and Jennie Buoy, former Atlantic Cape adjunct instructor of English.

The chapter in the book that includes Atlantic Cape faculty and staff represents the college’s curricular infusion research, which received the 2016 NASPA Student Affairs Partnering with Academic Affairs Knowledge Community Promising Practices Award. Atlantic Cape is the only college in the nation, community college or four-year, to receive the award this year. The research has been presented at state, regional, national and international conferences.

The book provides a comprehensive and evidenced-based understanding of the partnerships necessary to achieve an institutional culture devoted to student success. Chapter authors explore how to design, implement and assess collaborative efforts between student and academic affairs in support of increased student success.
