ACCC Theater Club Takes a Journey ‘Into the Woods’
December 1, 2006
Does marrying a prince really lead to a happy and fulfilling life? And just what does one do with a dead giant in the backyard?
These and outcomes of other familiar fairytales are in the spotlight as The On The Edge Players, the resident theater company of Atlantic Cape Community College's Walter Edge Theater, prepare for the Tony Award-winning musical "Into the Woods," by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.
The musical blends fairytales with the story of a childless baker and his wife, who are attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a baby.
The musical features renditions of fairytales such as "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Cinderella," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Sleeping Beauty," "Snow White" and "Rapunzel," but deals with consequences that traditional fairytales ignore. Ultimately, all of the characters in the stories must deal with what happens after "happily ever after."
"Into the Woods," staged and directed by ACCC student Philip Pallitto, features the talents of both ACCC students and Atlantic and Cape May County residents.
Shows begin at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7-Saturday, Dec. 9, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10. General admission tickets are $8. Tickets are $5 for students, seniors and ACCC Alumni Association members (with identification). For more information, or to reserve tickets, call (609) 625-1111, ext. 5250.
The Walter Edge Theater is located in Building C at ACCC's Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.
