ACCC Serves Up a Variety of Noncredit Culinary Classes This Fall

You can learn how to be a kitchen whiz from baking your own fresh bread to creating tantalizing stocks and sauces through culinary workshops this fall at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Academy of Culinary Arts. The continuing education classes include:

 Culinary Arts Training Program—This career preparation program offers hands-on courses that focus on the mastery of cooking principles and practical techniques that prepare you for the National Restaurant Association Food Service Sanitation certification exam. This five-month program prepares students for employment in the local culinary industry. Fee: $4,795. Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., beginning Oct. 2.

 Cooking Methods 101—This class will introduce you to the basics of sautéing and roasting. Learn how to make various gravies and pan sauces. Fee: $60. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 6-9 p.m.

 Asian Cuisine—Take a culinary tour around the most popular Asian cuisines and learn about specific Asian ingredients and techniques that make this cuisine so special. Fee: $60. Thursday, Oct. 12, 6-9 p.m.

 Introduction to Pulled Sugar—This class will cover the proper cooking methods and coloring for sugar and molding poured sugar and flowers. Fee: $60. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 6-9 p.m.

 Caramels, Pralines and Toffees—Get a jump start on some simple homemade treats that are great for holiday gifts. Fee: $60. Thursday, Nov. 9, 6-9 p.m.

 Dining According to Emily Post—Learn how to set an elegant formal dinner table and properly serve courses, clear plates and other etiquette lessons. Fee: $49. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m., at the Cape May County Campus, 341 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House.

 Cooking Methods 102—A continuation of basic cooking methods, this class will cover grilling and poaching techniques. Fee: $60. Thursday, Dec. 7, 6-9 p.m.

 Brunch Made Simple—This class will take participants through the planning and execution of a holiday brunch. Fee: $60. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 6-9 p.m.

Classes are taught by the ACA’s team of professional chefs. Culinary workshops are held at the academy, 5100 Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing, unless otherwise noted.
