31st Anniversary Restaurant Gala Honors Steel Pier Associates and Performance Ice Carver

The Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala will mark its 31st annual event by honoring Anthony Catanoso and Steel Pier Associates and Peter Slavin, a Philadelphia-based performance ice carver, at the March 13 event at Bally’s Atlantic City.

Slavin, a 1984 graduate of the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape, is an ice sculptor and co-owner of Fear No Ice, which provides unforgettable entertainment as the only performance ice sculpting company in the world. He has competed and won several international sculpting competitions and represented the United States at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway; Nagano, Japan; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Slavin will perform during the Gala’s cocktail reception.

Catanoso, president of Steel Pier Associates, and his family own and operate the world-famous Steel Pier in Atlantic City. The Catanosos are leading a five-year, $100 million renovation of the pier, which will be an integral part of Atlantic City’s resurgence.

The Restaurant Gala is South Jersey’s premier fundraising event and dining extravaganza. With the theme “The Greatest Gala on Earth,” the 2014 Gala will feature a vintage carnival atmosphere and spectacular feast.

The annual event celebrates food with hors d’oeuvres prepared by students at the Academy of Culinary Arts beginning at 6:30 p.m., and original dishes from 40 of the area’s best restaurants. An elegant dessert reception and live entertainment will complete the evening’s festivities.
