Atlantic Cape Presents 78 Communication and Art Awards

Atlantic Cape Community College hosted the 6th Annual Communication and Art Awards ceremony on May 3, at the Mays Landing Campus.

Joe Borsello and Scotty Reilly from “The Morning Edge with JoJo and Scotty” on WMGM-FM 103.7 served as emcees. The evening included appearances by NBC-40 news anchor Michelle Dawn Mooney, who was honored as an Outstanding Media Professional, Kira Young ’08, who was honored as Alumna of the Year and Miss New Jersey 2012 Lindsey Petrosh, honored as an Outstanding Communication Major.

Other speakers included Assistant Professors of Communication Keith Forrest of Collingswood and Joy Jones of Egg Harbor Township, College President Dr. Peter L. Mora of Palermo and Kenneth Kin of Galloway, 2012 recipient of the Communication Major of the Year award.

Four students competed for the Communication Major of the Year award, which went to Briar Gibbons of Egg Harbor City.

Gerri Black Creative Writing Awards winners were: Best Creative Non-Fiction, Geno Cantell of Linwood and Erica Villani of Hammonton; Best Drama, Ron Ardenti Somers Point; Best Fiction, Whitney Benedetto of Cape May Court House, Robyn McCullough of Absecon and Dylan Petrosh of Egg Harbor Township; Best Memoir, Katie O’Malley of Mays Landing; Best Poetry, Jasmine Allen of Absecon, Tyler Carman North Cape May, Darrell Johnson of Mays Landing and Matt Torres of Absecon; Best Short Fiction, Shawn McCarrick of Egg Harbor Township; and Rewrites, Erica Villani of Hammonton.

The Art, Public Speaking and Performing Arts Awards winners were: Best Call to Action, Darius Bond of Mays Landing and Kate Donnelly of Wildwood Crest; Best Informative, Katherine Givens of Cape May Court House and Peter Hall of Egg Harbor City; Best Persuasive, Brendon Barksdale of Egg Harbor Township and Catalina Cadavid of Atlantic City; Best Debate, Tyler Carman of North Cape May; Performing Arts Club, Rich Githens of Northfield; and Art Club, Mary Durante of Northfield.

The Public Relations and Interpersonal Communication and Organizational Communication Awards winners were: Best Press Release, Nanette Galloway of Egg Harbor City; Best PR Practitioner, Kenneth Kin of Galloway and Darrell Johnson of Mays Landing; Best PR Project, Ashley Fryberger of Somers Point, Nanette Galloway of Egg Harbor City, Kenneth Kin of Galloway and Ethan McGinnis of Egg Harbor Township; Interpersonal Paper, Chris Baker of Pennsville and Lauren Jones of Absecon; Best Interpersonal Project, Brandon Clarke of Cape May Court House; Kristi Collemacine of North Cape May and Samantha Cupps of Ocean City; and Best Organizational Communication Project, Briar Gibbons of Egg Harbor City, Carly Pearlman of Egg Harbor Township, Nanette Galloway of Egg Harbor City, Maria Guillan and Caitlin Morgan of Northfield; and Best Organizational Communication Practitioner, Carly Pearlman of Egg Harbor Township.

The Journalism Award winners were: Best Commentary, Kevin Del Cid of Egg Harbor Township; Best Feature, Chelsey Fairfield of Egg Harbor Township; Best Investigative, Jason Plageman of Linwood; Best Reporter, Nanette Galloway of Egg Harbor City; Best Sports, Matt Plunkett of Egg Harbor Township; and Atlantic Cape Review, Bobby Speirs of Absecon.

Mass Media and Television Award winners were: Best Mass Media Achievement, Alexis Corey of Egg Harbor Township and Vicki Comis of Tuckerton; Best Mass Media Project, Morgan Appleyard of Ocean View, Darrell Johnson of Mays Landing and Vince Spinogatti of Egg Harbor City; Best Mass Media Paper, Sara Knight of Seaville; Best Project Video, Matt Campione of Hammonton and Grace Diaz of Egg Harbor Township; Best Anchor, Kenneth Kin of Galloway; Best Camera, Jim Cohen of Cape May; Best Director, Max Fineran of Smithville; Best Editing, Val Laboy of Northfield; Best Sports Reporter, Julian Anderson of Mays Landing, Dino Arantoulis of Linwood; Best TV History Achievement, KJ Charlton of Atlantic City; Best TV History Project, Dan Danchak of Linwood, Thomas Rocco Jennetta of Somers Point and Lizette Salomon of Egg Harbor Township; and Best TV History Paper, Meagan Bailey of Brigantine and Aris Theofanopolous of Egg Harbor City.

Professional Pioneer winners were: Oakcrest High School Media Educators Jason Thomas of Mays Landing and Chip Lockwood of Pleasantville; Absegami High School Performing Arts Educators Michael Piotrowski of Galloway and Ed Johnson of Galloway; Atlantic Cape Assistant Director of College Recruitment Linda McLeod of Atlantic City; and Atlantic Cape Librarian Ellen Parker of Absecon.

Faculty Pioneer winners were: Leila Crawford of Barrington, assistant professor of English; Keith Forrest of Collingswood, assistant professor of Communication; and Jay Peterson of Howell, associate professor of English.
