Atlantic Cape Communication Student Earns On-Air Radio Host Opportunity
March 7, 2013
Atlantic Cape Community College communication student Casey Bailey of Mullica Township recently earned a paid internship as a third host and producer on the Mike & Diane Show on WAYV 95.1.
Bailey first learned about the on-air internship opportunity while listening to the radio in September.
“I heard them mention they needed an intern on the radio. I started emailing them, and after the holidays, I reached out to them once more and I finally got an interview,” she said.
Bailey made her on-air debut Feb. 20.
“We talk about celebrity dirt, hot topics of the week and weird stories,” Bailey, 19, said.
She is also a server at Applebee’s, where she occasionally works until midnight. The biggest challenge of her hosting role is the early schedule.
“I wake up at 4 a.m., Monday to Friday, to get to the studio before the show begins at 5:30 a.m.” “I’ve fallen asleep on the couch at Atlantic Cape before class because I’ve been so tired,” Bailey said.
She attributes the skills she is learning in her public speaking class at Atlantic Cape to her success as a “confident” co-host.
Bailey offers the following advice to other students pursuing internships: “keep trying to put yourself out there. If you work hard you can get what you want—persistence pays off.”
Bailey plans to continue her education at Rowan or Temple universities after completing her associate degree at Atlantic Cape. Her goal is to become a film director or producer.
