Atlantic Cape Community College basketball player Kerry Player of Woodbine was named Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association for games Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
The Buccaneers saw Player excel on both ends of the floor last week, despite dropping both of their games. In a 54-48 loss to Middlesex Community College, Player scored 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks. The 6-foot sophomore then recorded a double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds against Ocean County College. Player knocked down 11-of-16 free throw attempts and registered five blocks in the narrow 61-57 defeat.
Averaging 13.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season, Player leads the Buccaneers in each of those categories. The Cape May County Technical High School graduate also recently hit a milestone, scoring 500 points and pulling down 500 rebounds for the Buccaneers.
“She is one of the best women basketball players in Atlantic Cape’s history,” said Mike Rennick, assistant director of athletics. “She was named to the All Region First Team and led the nation in blocked shots last year in Division III.
