Atlantic Cape Monitoring Hurricane Sandy; Links to Resources Available

October 26, 2012

A major storm is predicted for our area early next week. Atlantic Cape officials are closely monitoring the storm's progress and will let students know if there are any class cancellations. Atlantic Cape will share emergency information via this website, text alerts and on Facebook at Twitter.

You can also find updated information about the emergency preparations in Atlantic County at http://readyatlantic.org/stay/com_notification.asp or Cape May County at http://www.capemaycountygov.net/Cit-e-Access/news/index.cfm?NID=9536&TID=5&jump2=0.

Additionally, the Township of Hamilton Police Department and Office of Emergency Management encourage local residents to make the following preparations:

1) Secure items on your property such as trash cans, lawn furniture, children’s toys, etc.
2) Ensure drains and gutters are clear of leaves and debris.
3) Be sure loose braches and shrubs are cleared from your property.
4) Find out your best evacuation route should evacuations be required.
5) Prepare a 3-day supply of water and food in the event of power outages.

Residents should continue to monitor the progress of the storm closely. Also, residents living on lakes and along the river should keep a close eye on water levels and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Additionally, The NJ Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) is advising that residents can stay informed about emergencies and disasters that are occurring in New Jersey, and what the NJOEM is doing to help NJ residents during adverse conditions. NJOEM uses a variety of public information tools to communicate emergency information, and also information regarding weather closings, early dismissals, delayed openings, etc.

Some tools NJOEM recommends include:

NJOEM on Twitter: @NJOEM2010
