Atlantic Cape Professor Celebrates 20th Anniversary of E! Entertainment Television
August 14, 2012
Atlantic Cape Community College communication professor Keith Forrest of Collingswood attended the 20th anniversary reunion of E! Entertainment Television Aug. 4. The event was held at the Level 3 nightclub in Los Angeles, and brought together more than 20 years of former and current E! employees.
Forrest began working at E! a few months after the network launched. He worked on the talk show “The Inside Word,” and served as a writer and producer for “E! News Daily until February 1995.
During his experience at E!, Forrest covered movie premieres and interviewed celebrities, including: Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman, singer Madonna and the cast of the TV series “Seinfeld.”
“That time in Los Angeles taught me a lot about the realities of television and the entertainment business: It’s not all that glamorous. It’s a lot of hard work,” Forrest said.
Forrest’s most memorable celebrity experience was at the 1994 film premiere for “Speechless” starring Michael Keaton.
“Television crews were jostling for position behind the rope line as the stars of the film came down a red carpet. I had broken my arm in a car accident a few weeks before [the event] and I was wearing a cast. Keaton flew by me and began an interview with another television crew, but in the middle of the interview Keaton stopped and walked over to me to see if I was okay. He said, ‘Hey buddy, what happened to your arm?’ He genuinely seemed to care and began doing an interview with me about the movie,” said Forrest.
Forrest is the co-creator of Atlantic Cape’s communication degree program. He brings a piece of Hollywood to Atlantic Cape each spring through the annual Communication and Art Awards Show.
