Academy of Culinary Arts to Showcase Students’ Skills at Seafood Festival

Four Academy of Culinary Arts students will present their original recipes using seafood found in New Jersey at the 17th Annual New Jersey Fresh Seafood Festival.

The four were winners in the annual student competition at the ACA, located at Atlantic Cape Community College. They will demonstrate their recipes at the Seafood Festival at Historic Gardner’s Basin in Atlantic City on Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11.

First prize of a $1,000 scholarship went to Wei Wen, Ocean View, for his grilled cilantro shrimp with spring vegetables and tangerine beurre blanc.
Runners-up, each of whom received a $500 award, were: Tim Longstreth, Stone Harbor, lobster and shrimp ravioli; Barry Mostyn, Cherry Hill, “Batter Up” beer batter seafood medley; and Robert Quirk, Petersburg, Maria’s Rose seafood sauce.

Finalists were Jessica Brophy, Medford; Ian Potter, Ocean City; Marco Piro, North Wildwood; Edward Soehngen, Little Egg Harbor; Alvina Sandufu, Egg Harbor Township; and Joseph Nicoletta, Cape May Court House.

Held annually, the New Jersey Fresh Seafood Festival showcases local seafood and restaurant vendors and features outdoor family entertainment to raise money for local charities and scholarship funds.

Visitors can pick up the student-presenters’ original recipes at ACCC’s booth at the event in addition to summer and fall schedules, brochures on the Academy of Culinary Arts and other ACCC programs.
